Book Review: “The Strange Death of Europe”

Strange Death of Europe by Douglas MurrayDouglas Murray Bloomsbury: 343 pp., on AmazonEurope’s Epitaph – A Saga of Political Correctness, Denial, Arrogance, and Stupidity

Book Review by Col. Tom Snodgrass (Ret.)

The Seemingly Inexplicable, Self-Inflicted Demise of Western Europe

The first paragraph of the book’s Introduction sets the stage for the bizarre and appalling historical account that follows:

Europe is committing suicide. Or at least its leaders have decided to commit suicide. Whether the European people choose to go along with this is, naturally, another matter.

Willful self-destruction is difficult to comprehend and explain, but the author, Douglas Murray, does as well as such a decidedly weird behavior permits. Mr. Murray is a prize-winning British author, journalist, and associate magazine editor, and as such he is perfectly positioned to deal with this abnormal issue as a firsthand observer chronicling the pathetically tragic civilization-ending events.

The Historical Background

The fateful story begins in Western Europe after the Second World War when the war’s massive male death toll created continent-wide labor shortages. In order to perform the critical reconstruction of the war-devastated societies, the Western Europeans turned to a readily available source of manpower, the teeming Islamic labor markets in North Africa, Turkey, the Middle East, and Southwest Asia. The assumption when the Islamic labor recruitment was initiated in the post-war era was that the imported labor augmentation would be temporary and that the migrant workers would return to their counties-of-origin after some undetermined period of time. The entire concept was poorly thought-through by European governments from the beginning.

The Interfaith Series: Growing Crisis Facing Jews and Christians

This series examines a serious faith problem that is rapidly growing in the Richmond area and across our nation—the ‘inter-faith’ movement. Its stated purpose is promoting dialogue across different religions; particularly Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. Jews and Christians share the Torah, or Bible Old Testament, a common bond that’s existed for almost 2,000 years. Neither of these religions share a similar bond with Islam.

But the event’s dialogue is not open. Instead it uses mutual trust based solely on what one party (such as Islam) chooses to disclose about its religion.  One person’s disclosure becomes truth, a subjective truth no longer grounded in facts or understanding. Others (such as non-Muslims) are to accept those disclosures as ‘truth.’ This format creates a type of impenetrable ignorance, and shifts religion’s focus away from God and onto man’s stated beliefs. Couple this with the general ignorance many Christians today have about their own religion and you have a recipe for disaster. But the cure begins with a real education using facts, history, and objectivity. One that few of our institutions appear capable of currently providing.

Islam Defined

Interfaith Yoga DiversityArticle 5 in a Series  (see full lnterfaith list here)

By Dan Wolf

Islam Is ... defines Islam as follows. “The Arabic word Islam literally means ‘surrender’ or ‘submission.’ Islam, as a faith, means total and sincere surrender to God so that one can live in peace and tranquility. Peace (Salam in Arabic, Shalom in Hebrew) is achieved through active obedience to the revealed commandments of God ... Islam is a complete way of life, implying a total submission to God. One who surrenders his or her will to God, voluntarily, is called a Muslim.”[1] This is an accurate statement about Islam, but it only lays out a faith component. So what other implications arise from the above definition?

Islam’s Jesus

Interfaith Yoga DiversityArticle 6 in a Series  (see full lnterfaith list here)

By Dan Wolf

This article touches on God’s nature. Within Judeo-Christian tradition, the question is ‘Who is God?’. Within Islam the question becomes ‘What is God?’ Some of the significant differences between Allah and God have already been discussed in Part 2, A Christian Perspective. However, there are a couple more quick points to add before turning to Jesus.

God’s Oneness

From Islam Is ... again. “In Islam everything is built on the oneness of God.”1 This oneness is so simple and pure that it allows no room for the persons of Father, Son and Holy Spirit within God’s Single Essence. Why? Because God is so simple and pure that Allah is only will, without any Being, Essence, or Nature. This view of God leads to the notion within Islam that “[I]t is forbidden to attribute to God characteristics of His creation. The only attributes that may be ascribed to God are the ones He revealed Himself in the Qur’an or those used by the Prophet to describe Him.”2 Even these attributes are not a part of Allah’s nature, but only things Allah causes.

To stop Islam, rediscover pride in Christian civilization

The single greatest threat to freedom, liberty, and the national security of the United States is not Russia or North Korea or China. It is Islam.

Islam has been at war with Christian civilization since Satan first deceived Mohammad in a cave in 610 AD and passed himself off as an angel of light. The history of Islam since then has been one of unremitting bloodshed, repression, and implacable hostility to the followers of the Cross. It is anything but a religion of peace. It is instead a religion of war, violence, and death. As Winston Churchill once accurately and trenchantly observed, “No stronger retrograde force exists in the world.”

Islam is, he said, a “militant and proselytizing force,” and “were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science...the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome.”

The Christian West has been forced to turn back the dark forces of Islam repeatedly from the continent of Europe, first by Martin of Tours in 732 AD, then again at Lepanto in 1571, and at the gates of Vienna in 1683. Islam has never, ever retreated from its determination to conquer the Christian West and eliminate the light of Christianity from the face of the earth. We ignore this history at our lasting peril.
