The Problem of Religious Sources

Interfaith Yoga DiversityArticle 4 of a Series  (see full lnterfaith list here)

The Road Ahead

The next few articles look at some common arguments advanced by Islam against Christianity specifically - and by extension other faiths in general. The purpose of these articles is to lay out the facts underlying Islam’s claims on each topic. After these topics have been discussed, we’ll move on to how we should respond as Christians, what should a Biblical response look like?

The Qur’an and the Bible

The Qur’an and the Bible are the foundational sources for Islam and Christianity respectively. Pete Seda asserts a common claim within Islam that “Muslims believe in all the previous revealed books.”[1] Specifically this relates to the revelations given to both the Jewish people and Christians. However, “Muslims do not consider the scriptures revealed before the Qur’an, which are presently in circulation in various editions and versions, to be an accurate representation of their original revealed form. According to the Qur’an, people have distorted these scriptures for their own worldly gain.”[2] Further, “the final means by which they [scriptures] judge different matters and seek ultimate guidance is sought through the Qur’an.”[3]

This article looks at the preceding claims. Have the Torah and Bible contents been corrupted? What specifically does the Qur’an say about earlier revelations? It sticks to historical facts. Nothing else is needed. This article does not address the teachings within either the Qur’an or Bible, but instead the development of these two sources themselves and the above claims related to them.

Islamic Propaganda

Article 3 in a Series

by Dan Wolf  (see full lnterfaith list here)

Interfaith Yoga DiversityThe last two articles (Inter-Faith Myths and Islam: Part 1 and  Part 2 A Christian Perspective)  focused on ideas and material presented at several inter-faith events occurring at Richmond area churches and a mosque. These next few articles will explore some of the written material that is held out by Islam’s supporters proclaiming what it is and is not. The definition of propaganda is “A systematic effort to persuade a body of people to support or adopt a particular opinion, attitude, or course of action.” These materials are generally intended to portray an image that Judeo-Christian principles are not so different from Islam, and that Islam accommodates those principles within its tenets. We have fourteen hundred years of history, from both Islamic and non-Islamic sources, that contradict the ideas put forth in these writings. All we need to do is educate ourselves.

There are so many booklets, pamphlets, and texts on this topic that one could never respond to each in turn, but we don’t have to. Underlying all of these materials are just a few basic ideas, and those are what really need to be addressed. However, one must have a true understanding of their own faith in addition to a basic understanding of Islam to be in a position to discern the truth. Just accepting another’s word is not enough. That is one reason why I encourage you to do your own work. Study. Do not even accept what I say as truth, but put in the work to find the truth for yourself. That is a reason why I try to use original sources as much as possible, and frequently use footnotes so that you can make your own judgment.

Re: Continuing Murder of Christians by Muslims

Dear Bishop Curry:

The purpose of this letter is to urge you to state a definitive ecclesiastical position for The Episcopal Church in the United States of American against the continuing murder of Christians by Muslims worldwide.

In my opinion as a Christian, all Christians, and especially the organized church, have responsibility to intercede when our fellow Christians are undergoing the persecution that Christ foretold in Luke 12:51: Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.

As well as foretelling the coming of Mohammed and Islam in Matthew 7:15: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolvesand in Matthew 24:24:For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God's chosen ones.” [Underline emphasis added]

America at War: Let Us Reclaim Our Independence Day

Understanding the Threat

Last Tuesday, July 4th was America’s anniversary of declaring its independence from tyranny and oppression.

The first war America fought after the Revolutionary War was the war against the muslim states – the Barbary States.  Now, in 2017, America is again at war with Islam.  Unlike when President Thomas Jefferson sent Marines to Tripoli, today the enemy is not only on some far off shore.  The Islamic Movement operates inside the United States and has insinuated itself into our power structure.  It infects our education system, blinds our clergy, walks hand in hand with our willingly seditious media, and wages war in many ways in which average Americans remain unaware.

As the former manager at the Combatting Terrorism & Technical Support Office (CTTSO) inside the Pentagon said on national radio last July (2016):  “When you look at the deliberate decision-making process inside the U.S. government as it relates to radical Islam, that deliberate decision-making process is control by the Muslim Brotherhood.”

When Evangelicals Become Useful Idiots for Islamism

Yasir Qadhi and Dr James White

James Simpson | American Thinker

Our culture looks to be coming apart at the seams. The June 14 attack on the GOP Congressional Baseball team is only an exclamation point in an increasingly hostile, increasingly violent, premeditated campaign by Democrats and other leftists to create an atmosphere of ungovernable anarchy. The Christian church has not escaped this agenda. In fact, it has become a major target. The Left, in concert with its allies among atheists, Islamists, and the homosexual lobby, is engaged in a multi-front war to destroy what remains of our nation's Christian bedrock. One of the fronts in this war comes under the innocuous heading "Interfaith Dialog". It sounds so compelling: a mutually beneficial outreach for "differing faith traditions" to find common ground and join forces to mend the fractious divisions between Muslims, Christians, Jews, and for that matter, practically everyone else.

But that is not what is accomplished. As Robert Spencer repeatedly argues, most Muslims want to live their lives like the rest of us. They want nothing to do with the radical jihadis, Islamic terrorism, or indeed much of the classical interpretations of Islam that classifies women and non-Muslims as second-class citizens. The problem is that while apologists reassure us that we have nothing to fear, those in the forefront of this battle, like the Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the hundreds of other Muslim Brotherhood front groups, are determined to use every tactic at their disposal to deconstruct our laws, our Constitution and our religious and secular institutions, to replace them with the Islamic version, Sharia law. As Spencer says, "They take advantage of our ignorance about Islam to mislead people into complacency about Islam."
