Mission of the Virginia Christian Alliance

Introduction to the Virginia Christian Alliance

The mission of the VIRGINIA CHRISTIAN ALLIANCE is to promote moral, social and scientific issues we face today from a Biblical point of view. In addition we will refute and oppose, not with hate, but with facts and humor, the secular cultural abuses that have overridden laws and standards of conduct of the past.

We will encourage Christians to participate in these efforts through conferences, development of position papers, booklets and tracts, radio/TV spots, newspaper ads and articles and letters-to-the editor, web sites, newsletters and providing speakers for church and civic meetings.

While non-denominational, we believe in the fundamentals of the Christian Faith, the Holy Bible to be the inspired Word of God, One God existent in three persons, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe in the preeminence of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, death and resurrection, and the need for each individual to accept Jesus as his personal Savior, the promise of everlasting Life if we do and the promise of eternal Hell if we do not. We believe in the presence of the Holy Spirit to help us live an obedient and godly life and we look forward to the return of the Lord Jesus.

We believe Jesus is completely different from the founders of other religions and He cannot be listed with nor compared to the founders of Hinduism, Buddha, Confucius, Muhammad, Joseph Smith, etc. He is above and supreme to all man-led organizations and churches. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to God the Father except through Him. JESUS IS KING.

A Brief History of Virginia Christian Alliance

Virginia Christian Alliance (VCA) came about as two different efforts were started and then they combined.

VCA was organized legally as a corporation on January 8, 2009 by Greene Hollowell and Steve Waters. Our attorney, Keith A. Fournier, Esq. was the 3rd incorporator. Steve knew Keith and arranged for him to not only do the incorporating, but to apply for the 501 c-3 tax exemption from the IRS. (Keith was the founding Executive Director for the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ)). After the legal affairs were completed, Keith resigned and we invited Elaine Hanger to join us on the Board. We both knew Elaine and admired her, Steve from working with the Marriage Amendment and Greene in the pro-life area. At the same time Virginia Christian ACTION was incorporated and application for a 501 c-4 was made. Originally Greene was thinking of a Richmond only ministry, but Steve pushed for a state-wide name and effort because of his contacts in working on the Marriage Amendment.

At the same time Don Blake, Rev. Joe Ellison, Steve Waters and others were developing a similar ministry, THE COUNCIL FOR BIBICAL PRINCIPLES. Steve being a part of both saw the wisdom of bringing us together as one. He was the Match Maker! Since VCA had already had the legal requirements accomplished we agreed to operate under that name. Don Blake became our Chairman and leader.

An example of the method of how we have grown:

Elaine Hanger invited Steve and Greene to hear Terry Beatley give a pro-life talk at the Southside Church of the Nazarene. We immediately agreed she should be with us. Next Elaine gave us the name of Dr. Scott Walsh at VCU/MCV whom she had heard give a Creation talk. Terry and Greene interviewed Scott and he agreed to join us. Scott then gave us the name of Dr. David DeWitt, chairman of the Science Dept. and Creation Studies at Liberty University. Greene, Don and Gary Wood interviewed David and he agreed to join us. Elaine also suggested that Rev. Pat Fiordise, pastor of Kingsland Baptist Church lead our PASTORS FOR LIFE effort. (Pat has agreed to do so). In addition Elaine’s husband, Harry, has joined us in presenting THE TRUTH PROJECT.

Our main effort is to make presentations on the 7 ISSUES as outlined in the booklet COMMON SENSE 2010 (also available on the VCA web). See CONTACT US on our web to view the various assignments. We are all volunteers and most are still working our jobs so we can respond to request to speak only as they meet our schedules. Therefore we need many more Advisors to give us the ability to respond statewide and when sickness or other contingency would preclude us meeting a promised event.

So, do you know Christian brothers and sisters who can:

  1. Agree with the 7 ISSUES.
  2. Have the knowledge and ability to make presentations on one or more of the ISSUES.
  3. And want to be involved in leading others to honor and obey God’s principles and commands as revealed in the Holy Bible.

Please contact Greene with names, especially needed are those outside the Richmond metro area. We need to cover the State and especially the college towns.
