Obedience to God

Promoting Obedience to God and the Preeminence of Jesus Christ as Revealed in the Holy Bible

Refuting the atheistic, agnostic, materialistic, and humanistic cultures, and the liberal, left-wing religious denominations

Introduction

Jesus never said it would be easy. In fact, He said it would be difficult. In John 15:20, Jesus says, “If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also.” Furthermore, 2nd Timothy 3:12-13 says, “In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.” Doesn’t this last verse ring true, considering the present state of the world? Matters have gotten worse, and Christians are persecuted more than ever before for proclaiming the Good News and upholding God’s law. We truly live in a world of darkness, where enemies conspire against us for following God. Jesus knew this would happen, as he said, “They hated me without reason” (John 15:25).

Christian Politics: A Question of Obedience

The Christian view of politics accounts for God’s sovereignty and our dependence on Him. We understand that God instituted government to promote His justice. We also understand our God-given obligation to respect, obey, and participate in governments that serve His will (Romans 13:1–2). Our obedience minimizes the need for increased governmental authority. Our duty to promote justice and preserve order, however, does not require that we blindly follow leaders who stray from their responsibility to God. Rather, we must hold them accountable by our participation in government—voting, petitioning if necessary, running for political office, or serving in non-elected positions where we may be able to influence those in power (Proverbs 29:2).

Christians and The Culture: “Defending Faith, Family and Freedom”

March 2010

I read years ago that “Leaders are Readers and Readers are Leaders”.  Makes sense doesn’t it?  It makes a difference what we read.  We are influenced by what we read and therefore we must always seek the truth in all things.  “Wise people store up knowledge” (Prov. 10:14).

The number one thing we should read – daily – is the Bible and probably a daily bible study or devotional.  Everything else we read should be filtered through our “biblical world view”.  We live in the world, so we need to keep up with the world going on around us.  To be informed, we should read a newspaper daily – not just the sports, flair or headlines.  We need to read the editorials and commentaries and we should try to understand the motivation of the writers of our news and commentaries.

Words Have Real Meanings

Words Have Real Meanings

Christians and The Culture: “Defending Faith, Family and Freedom”

February 2010

We all say things – words – that we often would like to take back, sometimes as soon as they exit our mouths, or soon thereafter.  We have short-term brain to mouth disconnects.  I am not talking about those kinds of words.

I would like to look at words – one at a time – and how our world culture uses words to change our thoughts and to desensitize us to “their” world view.  We have to first, recognize these words and, second, not accept the use of these words.

Let’s look at some words that are in front of us everywhere:  television, newspapers, magazines, movies, advertisements, hotel rooms, family, friends and co-workers.

What Do You Believe and Why?

Christians and The Culture: “Defending Faith, Family and Freedom”

January, 2010

There have been several articles in newspapers lately about what Americans believe.  The USA Today December 10, 2009 had a long article about the findings of a survey by the Pew Forum on religion.  Here are some of the findings of the survey:

Christians – 23% believe “the position of stars/planets can affect people’s lives” (astrology);

Christians – 22% believe “people will be reborn again and again”;

Christians – 17% believe “people with the ‘evil eye’ can cast curses or harmful spells”.
