“Of all the dispositions and habits which lend to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of Patriotism who should labor to subvert these great Pillars of human happiness.” George Washington, Farewell Address, 1796
Why are we putting so much emphasis on America’s Godly Heritage? Is it because we see the Obama administration attacking our Judeo-Christian values, violating clear Constitutional principles, and limiting our “inalienable” rights to life and to liberty? Is it because of growing government efforts to silence the church and to expel God from our public schools and from the public square?
Might there be a connection between these attacks on our Judeo-Christian heritage and the moral decline in our culture -- including crime, abortions, broken homes, rampant pornography, and government corruption? Is it possible for America, or any nation, to prosper apart from obedience to God’s principles in our daily lives and in the public square?
Memorial Day, formerly known as Decoration Day, was instituted to honor the Civil War dead. Local observances were held as early as 1866, many of them in the South where most of the war dead were buried. The first official and large observance took place on May 30, 1868, at Arlington National Cemetery, which held the remains of twenty thousand Union soldiers and several hundred Confederate dead. Five thousand people attended the ceremony.
New York was the first state to declare the holiday, in 1873; other states quickly followed. After World War I, citizens expanded the observance to honor those who died in all American wars. In 1971, Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday and changed the date to the last Monday of May. In recent years, many use the occasion to decorate the graves of loved ones.
Many of our VCA subscribers have signed petitions to impeach Attorney General Mark Herring. We started the petition drive about a week after he declared he would not defend our Commonwealth’s marriage amendment just days after being sworn in as Virginia’s Attorney General and pledging to defend the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Virginia Christian Alliance held a press conference in Richmond attended by Pastors from across the Commonwealth to call for Herring’s impeachment.
One week later, VCA participated in another press conference in Norfolk where 25 Pastors who voted for Herring called for his impeachment. A month later, VCA joined the leaders of The Frederick Douglass Foundation and the Coalition of African American Pastors at Capitol Square in a third press conference to condemn Herrings action and to call for his impeachment.

Robert Jeffress, pastor of the First Baptist Dallas megachurch, is not mincing words when it comes to Islam.
Indeed, he’s telling it exactly like it is in his six-week “Countdown to Apocalypse” series: Islam is a false religion that will take you straight to hell.
“It was Satan himself who delivered those delusions to those people to lead people by the millions away from God,” Jeffress told his 11,000-member congregation. “Islam is a false religion that will lead you to hell. It is based on a false book that is based on a fraud. It was founded by a false prophet who was leading people away instead of to the one true God.”
Our earliest settlers in Jamestown planted a large cross at Cape Henry in 1607 and prayed that “ … from these very shores the Gospel shall go forth to not only this New World, but the entire world.” Yes, Christian!
Later arrivals like the Pilgrims and Puritans dreamed that this would become a “City on a Hill” like the one Jesus referred to in His Sermon on the Mount. Christian!
Impacting Virginia through well-reasoned, respectful advocacy and education on public policy issues and by challenging Christians to engage the culture and serve their communities.

2nd Chronicles 15:3. Now for a long time Israel has been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law. Has America become the Israel of 2nd Chronicles?
Ronald Reagan, the 40th president of the United States (1981-1989), spoke to a prayer breakfast in Dallas, TX in August 1984 and stated:
We establish no religion in this country, nor will we ever. We command no worship. We mandate no belief. But we poison our society when we remove its theological underpinnings. We court corruption when we leave it bereft of belief. All are free to believe or not believe; all are free to practice a faith or not. But those who believe must be free to speak of and act on their belief, to apply moral teaching to public questions.
239 years ago, Americans rebelled against an out-of-control government, declaring their independence from England. Today, many Americans are also rebelling against an out-of-control government often perpetrating similar abuses upon them. But, fortunately, the situation is different this time.
As written in THE LIBERTY REBELLION:
Be encouraged. While the Founding Rebels—after patiently petitioning the British government for a long time—ultimately were forced into a brutal war to end their oppression, we’re not in that situation. We still have a voice today and can effectively use the government the Founders sacrificed so much to implement to prevent further governmental abuse. Our rebellion occurs in the halls of Congress and state legislatures, in school board meetings, and in the hearts and minds of reasonable people across America. Our rebellion is orderly, peaceful, and lawful. In fact, it is the [Big-Government Disciples] who are acting unlawfully, ignoring America’s ultimate authority—the Constitution—as well as many existing laws.

Today, in America, we are witnessing an all-out demonization of Christians and their values. I believe that you and I must be among those principled citizens who rise up and stand against forces bent on the destruction of our nation’s religious and cultural underpinnings.
There is an aggressive movement against people of faith taking place in our nation the likes of which we have never seen. Right now, this movement is aggressively targeting natural marriage, seeking to redefine this God-ordained institution in courts of law and halls of legislatures… This destructive movement is also attacking our religious liberties. The movement’s leaders know that these two pillars of American culture are inextricably linked, and stand in the way of their takeover of virtually every aspect of our culture!
Re: Leonard Pitts article "Learning to get along in these polarizing times," March 18.
Pitts wrote about getting along in these polarizing times. During and after WWII we were the greatest nation on earth. Nearly everyone got along and we were a Christian and a united nation. What was it like? At that time abortion was murder, Bibles were read in every public school, Christian artifacts and evidence was in most public places, homosexuality was an abomination, just like the Bible says, and the Supreme Court ruled based on the real meaning of the Constitution and didn't re-interpret words and didn't illegally write new laws.

The Supreme Court is slated to rule on the subject of same-sex “marriage” this term. Here are four questions I want to ask same-sex marriage supporters:
1) If the Supreme Court says that it is okay for a man to marry a man and a woman to marry a woman, then how can they stop there?
Once they open Pandora’s Box, how can they say that polygamy is unconstitutional? The Supreme Court already ruled on that. Utah, a state founded by Mormons, could not be accepted in the Union until there was the promise that they would not practice polygamy, Reynolds v. United States, 1878.
If the Supreme Court rules to “redefine” marriage beyond one man-one woman, then how can they say a man can’t marry his sister, or a mother her son, or a man and his dog, or two men and one woman? How can they legally draw a line? Proponents of same-sex marriage howl at such questions, but three men just “married” in Thailand the other day.
Is it time for another Great Awakening in America? For example, the First Great Awakening stirred Americans to throw off the tyranny of Great Britain in the mid-1700’s.
It was spearheaded by evangelists like George Whitefield and by a Black-Robed Regiment of pastors like John Peter Gabriel Muhlenberg in Woodstock who, on January 21, 1776, preached from Ecclesiastes 3 -- and then led his men into the War for Independence.
The Second Great Awakening in the 1800’s was also led by pastors like Charles Finney who stirred the people to throw off the shackles of slavery. Like the first, it too was a battle for national unity and for freedom.
Horace Mann or Noah Webster?
The recent media coverage of the Common Core curriculum has caused debate among educators, politicians and parents. The stated goal of the Common Core is to have every school district in the nation follow the same national standards, the idea being that a standardized curriculum will raise students’ scores and performance across the board and make them more competitive in an international field. Proponents believe that a centralized approach to education in the U.S., with little parental control, no occasion for teacher innovation and a hefty taxpayer bill will be the solution to our failing schools, demoralized teachers and despondent students.
