Our Nation Under God

Why I'm Proud to Live in Augusta County

Augusta County Virginia Islam Homework

by Brad Huddleston

In recent days, Augusta County, Virginia has been in the national news. The folks here are some of the most gentle, loving, generous, intelligent and God-fearing people you will ever meet. We are also a tough bunch when we need to be.

I have been so encouraged this past week as I have watched our community rise up and push back very hard against Islamic teachings within our tax-funded public schools. There is a lot of anger here (as it is in the rest of the country) and for good reason.

Along with the other Southern States, Christianity is the dominate culture in most of Virginia. Augusta County is no exception.

Rear Admiral, Now Vice Admiral Lee - I Will Not Back Down on Religious Liberty

Rear Admiral LeeRear Admiral Lee (now Vice Admiral)  Addresses Restrictive Regulations on Religious Liberty

Urge Pentagon to scrub plan to court-martial Christians.    Sign the Petition!

This was published originally on May 7th, 2013, and is as important to hear today, even more so...

Family Research Council believes that religious liberty is more than the right to attend a private worship service. Religious observance has a distinctly positive effect on community and national life. The fostering of religious liberty is a hallmark of our culture as intended by our Founding Fathers and practiced by tens of millions of Americans.

May 7th, 2013 - Over the last several days we've watched the Pentagon double timing in their efforts to get ahead of the fallout from the April 23rd meeting between anti-Christian activist Mikey Weinstein and senior Air Force officials. In the meeting, discussion surrounded a forthcoming Air Force policy on religious expression that Lt. Gen. Richard C. Harding said "will be a panacea to all religious issues." Many in the Christian community have sought to make sense of the Pentagon's confusing statements this past week -- particularly the most troubling line: that "religious proselytization is not permitted within the Department of Defense." Coercion has always been prohibited. But another Air Force statement said "members are free to express their personal beliefs as long as it does not make others uncomfortable." Uncomfortable is obviously subjective. The Pentagon later claimed that evangelism is not included in their definition of proselytization.

Reason We Celebrate Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

Innumerable blessings have been bestowed upon the United States of America. Concerning these blessings President Lincoln wrote: “No human counsel hath devised, nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God.” President Lincoln went on to set apart the last Thursday of November as “a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens.”1

The Supreme Court Ruling Makes Way For Polygamy and Pedophilia

Polygamy-and-Pedophilia-320 RSN

Fortress of Faith Radio by Tom Wallace and Shahram Hadian discuss recent decision of the Supreme Court to make same-sex marriage the law of the land in all 50 states. Listen to the program HERE (mp3 download link) and below are the “show notes” from this program.

 Segment One

Our hearts are heavy over the recent decision of the Supreme Court to make same-sex marriage the law of the land in all 50 states. I must say that we are not surprised by this decision. Our nation has removed God's standard of righteousness that once governed this nation. We now have a nation where every man does that which is right in his own eyes.

Equality has become the standard instead of righteousness. If we give certain rights to heterosexuals, we must give the same rights to homosexuals.

There are a number of violations to the law in the two decisions that came down from the High Court last week. Today I want to talk about what really happened in these decisions.

Is It the Fourth?

declaration 311x200 rBob Morrison | Family Research Council

Those were the last words recorded of Thomas Jefferson. He had authored the Declaration of Independence exactly fifty years before he took his last breath. He died on July 4, 1826. That same day, his great rival and dear friend, John Adams, died five hundred sixty-two miles to the North. Adams' last words were: "Thomas Jefferson still survives."

Do those self-evident truths of which Jefferson wrote so eloquently in the Declaration mean anything today? Following last month's Supreme Court rulings, do any words mean anything today?

"I have never had a political idea that did not come from the Declaration of Independence," said Abraham Lincoln as he raised the American flag over Independence Hall in Philadelphia on February 22, 1861. And he added in an uncharacteristically emotional tone for him: He would rather be assassinated where he stood than surrender any portion of that great Declaration -- or a single star of that Union's flag.

David Barton Returns for "America's Godly Heritage: Part 2"

“Of all the dispositions and habits which lend to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.  In vain would that man claim the tribute of Patriotism who should labor to subvert these great Pillars of human happiness.”  George Washington, Farewell Address, 1796

Our Godly Heritage at Risk
Dean Welty and David Barton

Why are we putting so much emphasis on America’s Godly Heritage?  Is it because we see the Obama administration attacking our Judeo-Christian values, violating clear Constitutional principles, and limiting our “inalienable” rights to life and to liberty?  Is it because of growing government efforts to silence the church and to expel God from our public schools and from the public square?

Might there be a connection between these attacks on our Judeo-Christian heritage and the moral decline in our culture -- including crime, abortions, broken homes, rampant pornography, and government corruption?  Is it possible for America, or any nation, to prosper apart from obedience to God’s principles in our daily lives and in the public square?

Memorial Day 2015 from On This Day Devotional

Graves at Arlington on Memorial DayGraves at Arlington on Memorial DayJesus told his disciples “Do this to remember me.” Luke 22:19

Memorial Day, formerly known as Decoration Day, was instituted to honor the Civil War dead. Local observances were held as early as 1866, many of them in the South where most of the war dead were buried. The first official and large observance took place on May 30, 1868, at Arlington National Cemetery, which held the remains of twenty thousand Union soldiers and several hundred Confederate dead. Five thousand people attended the ceremony.

New York was the first state to declare the holiday, in 1873; other states quickly followed. After World War I, citizens expanded the observance to honor those who died in all American wars. In 1971, Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday and changed the date to the last Monday of May. In recent years, many use the occasion to decorate the graves of loved ones.

ACTION NEEDED: Impeach Attorney General Mark Herring

Chairman Don BlakeChairman Don BlakeMany of our VCA subscribers have signed petitions to impeach Attorney General Mark Herring. We started the petition drive about a week after he declared he would not defend our Commonwealth’s marriage amendment just days after being sworn in as Virginia’s Attorney General and pledging to defend the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Virginia Christian Alliance held a press conference in Richmond attended by Pastors from across the Commonwealth to call for Herring’s impeachment.

One week later, VCA participated in another press conference in Norfolk where 25 Pastors who voted for Herring called for his impeachment. A month later, VCA joined the leaders of The Frederick Douglass Foundation and the Coalition of African American Pastors at Capitol Square in a third press conference to condemn Herrings action and to call for his impeachment.

Islam Is Satanic, Says Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress

firstbaptistchurchdallas

Jennifer LeClaire | BARBWIRE

Robert Jeffress, pastor of the First Baptist Dallas megachurch, is not mincing words when it comes to Islam.

Indeed, he’s telling it exactly like it is in his six-week “Countdown to Apocalypse” series: Islam is a false religion that will take you straight to hell.

“It was Satan himself who delivered those delusions to those people to lead people by the millions away from God,” Jeffress told his 11,000-member congregation. “Islam is a false religion that will lead you to hell. It is based on a false book that is based on a fraud. It was founded by a false prophet who was leading people away instead of to the one true God.”

America: A Great Godly Heritage

Dean WeltyDean WeltyThis 64th National Day of Prayer is a good time to reflect on our history as a Christian nation and whether we still deserve that name yet today. America: A Christian Nation?

Our earliest settlers in Jamestown planted a large cross at Cape Henry in 1607 and prayed that “ … from these very shores the Gospel shall go forth to not only this New World, but the entire world.” Yes, Christian!

Later arrivals like the Pilgrims and Puritans dreamed that this would become a “City on a Hill” like the one Jesus referred to in His Sermon on the Mount. Christian!

Reflections on the National Day of Prayer

Ronald Reagan

2nd Chronicles 15:3. Now for a long time Israel has been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law. Has America become the Israel of 2nd Chronicles?

Ronald Reagan, the 40th president of the United States (1981-1989), spoke to a prayer breakfast in Dallas, TX in August 1984 and stated:

We establish no religion in this country, nor will we ever. We command no worship. We mandate no belief. But we poison our society when we remove its theological underpinnings. We court corruption when we leave it bereft of belief. All are free to believe or not believe; all are free to practice a faith or not. But those who believe must be free to speak of and act on their belief, to apply moral teaching to public questions.
