Sanctity Of Life

When Does Life Begin

Larry Ingles 150

This letter is in response to the major commentary supporting abortion that was printed in the Free Lance Star on Sunday November 2, 2014. That columnist should not be given any more space for their “opinion” than anyone else. They offered no facts to support their opinion, so it’s worth no more than someone else’s. It’s common sense that life begins at conception.

The normal fetus continues to grow from that point on, so why would it not be considered alive and a baby? The “choice” of abortion after conception today is usually just for “convenience”. This “choice” has resulted in over 56 million babies being killed in the womb. A person too self- centered, lazy, or uneducated to use available birth control methods, looks for a “remedy” after the fact.

The Back Alley is Main Street

Back-alley abortions have become main street

Back alley abortions. These three words commonly used by pro-abortion activists bring to mind a desperate woman secretively knocking on an unmarked door, whispering the name of a friend who referred her. The phrase conjures images of dirty instruments, brutal pain, infection and death.

With abortion now widely available—legal, safe and rare, so we’re told—this gruesome image is supposed to be a horror of the past.

Except it isn’t.

An Internet search on the phrase botched abortion brings up 540,000 results in a split second. Here’s a sampling from just the first page:

Va. Abortion Center Violates Federal Drug Law

Charlottesville Medical Center for Women

In August of 2011, Jill Abbey, Administrator for the Charlottesville Medical Center for Women, told the national ABC News, "We've been providing safe, up-to-code abortions for over 30 years and these facilities have served us well." Now, fast forward three years. The Board of Health has adopted health and safety standards for abortion facilities. Licenses have been distributed and inspections have been performed. And in Jill Abbey's perspective, her facility is still safe. But Department of Health inspection reports prove otherwise.

A Department of Health inspection report recently obtained by The Family Foundation through the Freedom of Information Act uncovered apparent violations of federal drug laws, including the administration of Schedule II narcotics without a license, by the personnel at the Charlottesville Medical Center for Women. Schedule II narcotics include controlled substances such as OxyCotin, Cocaine, Methamphetamines, and in this case Fentanyl.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe's Directive Endangers Women's Health

At Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s directive, the Virginia Board of Health is reconsidering the abortion standards that they just implemented to protect women’s health.  The abortion industry dumped significant money into the governor’s race to elect McAuliffe, and they are cashing in on his campaign promise to them.

In addition, McAuliffe stacked the 15-member health board with five pro-abortion supporters after he convinced four members to wrap up their terms on the board a month early.

The standards implemented by the Virginia Board of Health were not done on a whim or for political ideology.  This was an arduous two-year process which included ample debate on both sides of the issue.   Abortion centers need to be treated like outpatient surgical centers to protect women.

Supreme Court Holds That Pro-Lifers Have First Amendment Rights, Too

First published on The Daily Signal

In 2007, Massachusetts passed a law that prohibited anyone from knowingly entering or remaining on a “public way or sidewalk adjacent to a reproductive health care facility within a radius of 35 feet of any portion of an entrance, exit, or driveway…” In case it’s not obvious, this law was targeted at “sidewalk counselors” and other pro-life protestors. And Eleanor McCullen is one pro-life protestor who didn’t take the law sitting down.

She and a handful of other pro-lifers who engage in sidewalk counseling by offering information about alternatives to abortion and help pursuing those options, sued in 2008 arguing that the law violated their First Amendment rights. Today, the Supreme Court of the United States unanimously ruled in their favor in the case McCullen v. Coakley and struck down the law.

Supreme Court Unanimously Strikes Down Abortion Clinic Buffer Zones

Yesterday the Supreme Court ruled “buffer zones” around abortion clinics are unconstitutional. The unanimous decision prohibits states and localities from banning crisis pregnancy counselors from offering help to hurting women entering an abortion clinic.

McCullen v. Coakley brought together pro-life and pro-abortion justices. Chief Justice John Roberts, Jr. wrote, “Petitioners wish to converse with their fellow citizens about an important subject on the public streets and sidewalks—sites that have hosted discussions about the issues of the day throughout history. Respondents assert undeniably significant interests in maintaining public safety on those same streets and sidewalks, as well as in preserving access to adjacent healthcare facilities. But here the Commonwealth has pursued those interests by the extreme step of closing a substantial portion of a traditional public forum to all speakers. It has done so without seriously addressing the problem through alternatives that leave the forum open for its time-honored purposes.”

“Lies, Corruption, and Scandal”: New Report on Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood Exposed

Pro-Life Org Releases “Six Years of Exposing Planned Parenthood”

Arlington, VA – Live Action released a “damning investigative report” on Planned Parenthood Federation of America that details shocking activity within the abortion giant’s walls, including hiding the sexual abuse of children, facilitating taxpayer-funded sex-selective abortion against girls in the womb, and manipulative counseling tailored to convince women to abort their children.  The report is part of a campaign to urge citizens and legislators to expose and speak out against the United States’ largest abortion corporation.

The report, spanning six years and documenting a series of undercover investigations, shows “an institutionalized pattern of dangerous and illegal behavior,” said Live Action president Lila Rose.

Religion, Darwinism, and abortion … a hot combination

My new friend (I hope) W. Russell responded to an FAB post earlier this week.  He (or she) wrote:

I think you are making a big mistake by linking the pro-life cause with religion. There are people out there like me that are prolife but want nothing to do with religion. Not to mention the fact that “Darwinism” (btw, there is no such thing) has nothing to do with abortion. I am an atheist, believe in evolution, and am pro-life. Why do you want to write me off as an enemy to your cause. You say the biggest treat to children is the belief in evolution and abortion. No, the biggest treat to children is ignorance and the lack of respect for human rights, every human’s rights. One can believe that every human being, born and unborn is deserving of life without believing in a deity. The pro-life cause needs all the support possible. Don’t exclude people because they don’t have the same beliefs as you. If you do, you are just as ignorant as the people who support abortion.

Family Foundation Files Suit against McAuliffe Va Dept. of Health

Wednesday, March 19, 2014

This afternoon, The Family Foundation filed suit with the Richmond Circuit Court against Governor Terry McAuliffe's Department of Health and Interim State Health Commissioner, Dr. Marissa Levine, for their failure to respond to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request seeking documentation verifying that the Department of Health fulfilled its legal obligation to report a possible incident of child sexual abuse. The case surrounds a possible violation of the Commonwealth's mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse law by the Roanoke Medical Center for Women. The FOIA request to the Department of Health to determine follow up actions taken by state officials has not been answered in the time required by state law.

Abortion Unveiled: An Ironic Injustice

Rita Dunaway

The global tragedy of abortion is that, behind the thin veils of human flesh, it accomplishes an ethnic, racial, and gender purging of such efficiency and scale as to make Adolf Hitler appear inconsequential. In the United States, the most recent data indicate that 64% of abortions are obtained by black, Hispanic, and other women of color, despite the fact that they only account for 28% of the population. (Guttmacher Institute; U.S. Census Bureau).

As if that data were not disturbing enough, consider this statistic: since ultrasound technology has enabled parents to identify the gender of their unborn child, 160 MILLION girls have been lost to abortion in Asia alone, triggering a staggering gender imbalance that has demographers wringing their hands.

No Excuses! Rebuilding a Culture of Life

Dean Welty

Last Sunday, Jan. 19, was Sanctity of Life Sunday to mark the 41th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the infamous Supreme Court decision in 1973 that legalized abortion and led to the deaths of some 55 million babies since that time.

But, so what? Does it matter that nearly one out of four babies in America is aborted every day? Does it matter that a disproportionate number of those abortions take place in predominately black communities at Planned Parenthood clinics, an organization with a sordid history of targeting the black community?

Pictures Can Speak Horrific Words

Greene Hollowell 2012 150A

Richmond Times-Dispatch,  Friday, December 6, 2013

The pictures in the article, Rhetorical Crimes on the OP/Ed page, invoked the similarities of socialism under the German Nazis Nationalism, the Russian Marxist Communism and the American Democratic Party's Agenda. Not a good idea to make these comparisons says the writer Kathleen Parker. She asked- 'What is the impulse that drives our need to make such comparisons? Some things are like nothing else- and should be left to rest in peace'.
