Sanctity Of Life

Planned Parenthood & the Day of Tears

On Valley Radio This Weekend, Feb. 25 – 27 archived PODCAST RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW

“You saw me and You covered me in my mother’s womb; I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”  (Psalm 139:13 -16)

“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I set you apart.”  (Jeremiah 1:5)

“You shall not let any of your seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shall you profane the name of the Lord your God." (Leviticus 18:21)

“We are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness … and that to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men.”  (The Declaration of Independence)

Stop the Killing!

Our Crossroads program this weekend features two opposing voices in the ongoing debate about abortion in America.

The voice for abortion comes from Planned Parenthood.  The voice for Life comes from the Valley in a new initiative called the “Day of Tears”.

But behind all of this is yet a third voice of one who has played a critical role on both sides of the debate.

As a New York obstetrician-gynecologist, the late Dr. Bernard Nathanson personally performed tens of thousands of abortions and directed one of the largest networks of abortuaries in America.

As founder of the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL), he also worked closely with Planned Parenthood in urging the Supreme Court to legalize abortion in 1973.

But then he returned to his faith in God, and it changed his entire life.

As part of that change, he narrated a video film in 1984 entitled “Silent Scream” which captured ultrasound images of the real-time abortion of a 12-week-old child.

He concluded the film by calling on America to “Stop the Killing”, all of which has had a profound impact on both sides of the debate.

Then, in one of the last conversations before his death in 2011, Dr. Nathanson asked Terry Beatley to repeat his call across America, which she has now done in a new book entitled What If We’ve Been Wrong?

Planned Parenthood

But why are we now singling out Planned Parenthood, which touts itself as the proud champion of women’s “Reproductive Rights” – a euphemism for abortion.  There are several reasons.

Size:   Planned Parenthood is the largest single abortion provider in America.  In 2014, for example, it performed 324,000 abortions.  That is over one-third of the total number of abortions in the country.

--  Therefore, if we can close the doors of Planned Parenthood, it would be a big step toward Dr. Nathanson’s goal to “Stop the Killing” and thereby conclude one of the darkest chapters in America’s history.

Racial Targeting:   In addition, Planned Parenthood’s abortions are done disproportionately in minority communities, 28% among African Americans with only 13% of America’s population, and 25% among Hispanics with only 17%.  Moreover, 79% of its clinics are located within a two-mile radius of neighborhoods that are predominantly black or Hispanic.

--  This focus on minority communities should come as no surprise.  From its earliest days, led by eugenicist founder Margaret Sanger, it openly called for the creation of a superior race and the need to limit the number of people it considered to be “undesirable” and “unfit”.

Body Parts:  It has also been caught on tape admitting that it engages in the sale of aborted baby parts and in some cases even illegally alters its procedures to obtain “undamaged” products.

Taxpayer Funding:  Even though in 2014 it generated $1.3 billion in revenue, $554 million of that came from government grants and reimbursements, including Medicaid reimbursements.  That is American taxpayer money, comprising approximately 43% of total revenue.

Vote Buying:  In 2016, its Political Action Committee shelled out $34 million to support pro-abortion Democrats as well as to defeat pro-life Republicans.  As a result, defunding Planned Parenthood is difficult in states like Virginia where Planned Parenthood helped fund Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s political campaign and who, in return, vetoes defunding efforts.

The Day of Tears

Against that background, and as one more step toward generating popular support for ending this continued fetal genocide, we are encouraged by a new Valley-led, pro-life initiative called “The Day of Tears”.

In a resolution sponsored by Del. Ben Cline, co-sponsored by Del. Dickie Bell, and approved by the VA House of Delegates last month, it asks all Americans to lower their flags on Jan. 22 each year.

That has two goals.  It marks the day of infamy in 1973 that the U.S. Supreme Court legalized abortion, and it is also calls us to mourn the loss of 58 million babies who have been aborted since then.
