Congressional Democrats have repeatedly voted against a bill requiring basic medical care for infants born alive after failed abortions, including every sitting senator currently running for president.

GREENVILLE, North Carolina, July 18, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – President Donald Trump held one of his trademark rallies for supporters in North Carolina Wednesday evening, during which he took the opportunity to double down on criticizing pro-abortion extremism in the Democrat Party.
“Virtually every top Democrat also now supports late-term abortion, ripping babies straight from the mother’s womb, right up until the moment of birth,” Trump said as the crowd booed the practice.
“Well then you have the gentleman from – our governor from Virginia,” the president continued, referencing Democrat Gov. Ralph Northam. “So we’re talking about late-term; he’s talking about: the baby is born before the mother makes the decision. That was the first – that’s the first I’ve heard of it. That’s the first most of you have heard of it, and then they pass legislation in various states saying, that’s okay.”
In late January, video went viral from a hearing in which Democrat Del. Kathy Tran admitted that her bill to repeal regulations on late-term abortions would effectively allow abortion as a mother is about to give birth. The bill was soon tabled, but the ensuing controversy led to Northam defending the bill on the grounds that in cases of “severe deformities” or a “nonviable” baby, he said, a born-alive infant would be “delivered” but only “resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired.”
“This is a baby that’s born,” Trump said. “Nobody’s ever heard anything like that. Nobody’s ever seen anything like it. Nobody’s ever seen anything like it, and that actually when he had the scandal that became, can you believe it, the second biggest, can you believe that? How important it is, and yet that was the second biggest story. And what a shame when that’s the second biggest story.”
Trump was referencing the fact that the controversy was soon overshadowed by a yearbook photo identifying Northam as attending a college party costumed in either blackface or a Ku Klux Klan robe.
“What happened to our values?” Trump asked. “Republicans believe that every life is a sacred gift of God. And that’s why I’ve asked Congress to prohibit extreme late-term abortion of babies.” Such legislation cannot pass the current Democrat-controlled House of Representatives, and would also require revising the Senate’s current filibuster rules, which Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell opposes.
“Democrats are now the party of high taxes, high crime, open borders, late-term abortion, intolerance, and division,” the president declared. “The Republican Party is the party for all Americans and American values, the party of the American worker, the American family, and we are the party of the American dream.”
