Constitutional Showdown Part 1: Intelligence Weaponized Before the 2016 Election

Constitutional Showdown fourth branch of government

“This article is part of the Virginia Christian Alliance’s continuing Constitutional Showdown series, examining threats to truth, justice, and the rule of law in America.

Psalm 2:1-2 (KJV): “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed…”

Whether you support or oppose Donald Trump is irrelevant here. What follows is evidence from the declassified documents of the Obama administration’s conspiracy to subvert President Trump’s 2016 victory and presidency that speaks to something far greater than one man or one election. If officials can:

  • Manufacture intelligence conclusions to discredit a candidate,

  • Hide or distort key findings from the public,

  • Coordinate government power to control political outcomes,

…then the same machinery can be turned against any citizen, from any walk of life. This is about protecting truth and justice for everyone.

The Plot Before the Ballots Were Counted

Newly declassified records from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) reveal that senior Obama administration officials manipulated intelligence before Donald J. Trump’s lawful 2016 victory.

By late summer 2016, internal assessments had already concluded that Russia lacked both the intent and the capability to alter the election outcome. Yet those findings were quietly buried or altered.

Timeline Highlights Before the Election:

  • Aug 31, 2016: DHS told DNI James Clapper there was “no indication of a Russian threat to manipulate the actual vote count directly.”

  • Sept 2, 2016: The FBI asked to “soften” a pre-election assessment on Russian activity.

  • Sept 9, 2016: Officials agreed the intelligence summary should state Russia “probably is not trying…to influence the election” via cyber means.

  • Sept 12, 2016: Analysts concluded foreign adversaries “do not have” the ability to carry out undetected cyberattacks to change votes.

  • Oct 7, 2016: ODNI and DHS issued a press release claiming “confidence” that Russia directed the DNC/DCCC hacks — omitting the FBI and NSA’s “low confidence” qualifiers.

The Fabrication After the Election

When Trump won on November 6, 2016, the operation changed course. Instead of closing the file, officials rewrote the intelligence narrative to question the election’s legitimacy.

Key Moves After the Election:

  • Dec 7, 2016: The IC drafted a Presidential Daily Brief stating “foreign adversaries did not use cyberattacks…to alter the US Presidential election outcome.” Hours later, FBI Director James Comey withdrew, and the report was killed “based on some new guidance.”

  • Dec 9, 2016: President Obama ordered a new assessment on “Russia Election Meddling.” Hours later, the Washington Post published leaks claiming the CIA concluded Russia acted to help Trump — no final report existed at that time.

  • Late Dec 2016: An ODNI whistleblower was removed from communications after questioning why the new assessment contradicted earlier findings.

  • Jan 6, 2017: The unclassified ICA was released, alleging Putin helped Trump, based in part on the discredited Steele Dossier.

FACTS THAT DESTROY FALSE ASSUMPTIONS

  • Internal assessments found no capability or intent by Russia to alter the vote.

  • Early conclusions were changed or omitted in public statements.

  • The Steele Dossier was used despite its known unreliability.

  • Leaks to the media shaped public opinion before final reports existed.

Constitutional and Legal Implications

This isn’t about party politics — it’s about the rule of law. If unchecked, these tactics erode the foundation of the republic:

  • Article II — Executive authority undermined by political manipulation of intelligence.

  • First Amendment — Citizens are denied truthful information needed for informed voting.

  • Fourteenth Amendment — Equal protection compromised by selective use of state power.

Federal Statutes Potentially Violated:

Isaiah 59:14-15 (KJV): “And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter. Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey…”

A Call to Truth and Unity

This case is not about defending one man. It is about defending the principle that truth must not be weaponized and justice must not be partial. Today it may target a political figure; tomorrow, it could target a pastor, a business owner, or a neighbor.

As Christians, we are called to break down political walls, love our neighbors, and give thanks to God for the blessings of liberty. Protecting the truth protects everyone, and honoring justice honors the Lord who established it.
