Dear Christian: the Bible warned us the beast system would one day control who can buy and sell. For two thousand years we read that as prophecy for some far-off generation. Patrick Wood believes the machinery for it is being built right now — and most of us are scrolling right past it.
On Behind the Deep State, New American editor Alex Newman sat down with Wood, author of The New Economics of Technocracy: You Will Own Nothing. For decades Wood has warned about technocracy — rule by unelected experts who want to manage your life through technology. What he describes is not a movie plot. It is being built piece by piece, and the engine that runs it is artificial intelligence.
Watch the interview below. Then ask yourself a hard question: why have I not heard this anywhere else?
The Trap Is Built Before It Is Sprung
Wood’s central warning is about how this control arrives. It does not come all at once — it comes quietly, one piece at a time. “When they lay the trap, it’s always with infrastructure first,” he told Newman. “Then once the net is there, it can catch everybody and just close the loop.”
The pieces are already being set in place — digital identification, digital currency controlled by central banks, biometric scanning, and a flood of personal data pulled out of our lives and stored in the cloud. None of it is fully switched on yet. That is exactly the point. You build the cage while everyone is calm, and you only close the door once.
The Beast System and the Mark
Wood points straight to Scripture, and he is right to.
The apostle John wrote, “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark… and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark” (Revelation 13:16-17). John was shown an economy where no one could take part without permission from the beast system.
For two thousand years, no one could imagine how such a thing would work. How could anyone track every person on earth and switch their buying and selling on or off? The reality is that the technology to do exactly that is being built in front of our eyes.
Why AI Is the Key to It All
Here is the part that should wake up every believer who has waved off the AI conversation as something for the tech experts.
Wood argues that artificial intelligence “is not merely one component of the technocratic system. It is the component that makes all the other components operational.” The digital money, the surveillance, the mountains of collected data — none of it can be managed across a whole nation without AI to sort it and act on it.
“The danger of AI is not what you see on the surface,” Wood warned. “It’s the control grid that can take all this information on society, manage it, interpret what it means, and then use it to control the people.”
Let me be clear. Technology itself is not evil. A hammer can build a house or break a skull, depending on the heart of the one holding it. The question is not about the tool. It is about the men building it — who have told us plainly they intend a world where you will own nothing.
This Is Spiritual Warfare
It would be easy to file this away as politics and move on. As believers, we must not. Solomon wrote, “A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished” (Proverbs 22:3). The wise see trouble coming and prepare; the foolish keep walking and pay the price. God does not permit us to look away from danger simply because it is uncomfortable.
And yet we do not panic, because we are not children of fear. The same God who “changeth the times and the seasons; he removeth kings, and setteth up kings” (Daniel 2:21) rules over every data center and every line of code. No control grid is bigger than His hand. Empires that believed they had seized the future have crumbled in a single night under His judgment.
This is a matter of faith and trust in God’s Word. His sovereignty is not an excuse to fall asleep. It is the very reason we can keep watch without fear.
What You Should Do This Week
Not someday. This week.
- Watch the full interview above — all twenty-eight minutes. You cannot warn anyone about a danger you only half understand.
- Watch for AI data centers near you They can drain a community’s electricity and water and drive up your power bill. If one is proposed in your county, show up to the board meeting and ask hard questions — these are decided locally.
- Talk to your pastor. Ask whether your church has ever taught Revelation 13 in light of digital money and biometric ID. If the answer is never, ask why not.
- Examine your own heart. Could you walk with the Lord for one week if your digital access were shut off? If that question unsettles you, that is the warning.
The trap is built before it is sprung. A watchman who sees the sword coming and stays silent is held accountable for the blood (Ezekiel 33:6). Consider this the horn.
And take heart. The battle is real, but so is our God. Revelation 13 is not the last chapter — the beast rises, and then the beast falls, and the Kingdom that has no end stands forever. Our calling is not to win the future. It is to be found faithful, with our eyes open, when our Lord returns.
Key Takeaways
- Patrick Wood argues technocracy is being installed quietly as infrastructure, and only “switched on” once the net is complete.
- Digital ID, central bank digital currency, and biometric scanning echo the buying-and-selling control of Revelation 13:16-17.
- Wood calls AI the one component that makes every other piece of the control grid work.
- The real danger of AI is the hidden control grid beneath the surface, not the chatbots we see.
- Technology is a tool — the warning is about the hearts of the men building it.
- Proverbs 22:3 calls the believer to foresee danger and prepare, not look away.
- God’s sovereignty (Daniel 2:21) is our ground of hope, and never an excuse for passivity.
- Revelation 13 ends with the Lamb victorious — the beast rises and falls, the Kingdom stands.
