Democrats Continue Assault on Marriage

In the wake of President Obama's decision to no longer defend the Defense of Marriage Act, liberal Democrats -- led by Rep. Jerrold Nadler of New York -- have decided to take advantage of the situation and have introduced a bill to overturn DOMA, which restricts marriage to between a man and a woman.

Nadler, ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and vice-chair of the LGBT Equality Caucus, reintroduced the supposed "Respect for Marriage Act" legislation in the Senate last week.

The Divine Order to Marriage

Marriage is the full expression and design of God's image in human beings.

And the Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." . . . So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, He took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib (side) he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. (Gen 2:18, 21 22)

Nobody Gets Married Any More, Mister

Welcome to our urban high schools, where kids have kids and learning dies.

City Journal

In my short time as a teacher in Connecticut, I have muddled through President Bush’s No Child Left Behind act, which tied federal funding of schools to various reforms, and through President Obama’s Race to the Top initiative, which does much the same thing, though with different benchmarks. Thanks to the feds, urban schools like mine—already entitled to substantial federal largesse under Title I, which provides funds to public schools with large low-income populations—are swimming in money. At my school, we pay five teachers to tutor kids after school and on Saturdays.

The Future of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)

The federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was enacted in 1996 by large bipartisan majorities in both houses of Congress and signed into law by President Bill Clinton. It ensured that states would not have to recognize same-sex “marriages” from other states, and that the federal government would recognize only the union of one man and one woman as “marriage.”

Yet now, DOMA is under the sharpest attack in its history—despite the fact that four federal courts have already upheld its constitutionality, and no federal or state appellate court has ever said that it violates the U.S. Constitution.

The Privilege of Parenting

There is nothing in this world that compares to parenting:

Scripture reference: Psalm 127:1-5

There is nothing in this world more important than children

*Children are God's providential blessings in our lives.

Ref.- Luke 18:15-17- "they brought infants to Jesus that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked them.. But Jesus called them to him and said. 'Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no mans enter it.'."

The Obama Budget: Expanding Welfare, Undermining Marriage

The Heritage Foundation

How can the government grow the nation’s welfare roles and undermine efforts to support marriage, in a single effort? It must simply follow the plan outlined in President Obama’s budget: pay states to grow their welfare roles and eliminate programs that encourage healthy marriage in low-income communities. Despite the fact that low work hours and single motherhood are two of the greatest contributors to poverty in the United States, the newly released budget undoes welfare provisions that encourage work and discourage out-of-wedlock childbearing.

Marriage: It's Not Just for Your Grandparents

Apparently, cohabitation is the latest rage with Generation X. More than six million couples cohabit. With almost 50 percent of my generation cohabiting, I'm the odd man out. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as well as other Hollywood stars have made shacking up as popular as iTunes and Starbucks. The rate of cohabitation in the United States has increased more than 1,000 percent since 1960.

Marriage and the Constitution

ken_blackwell_bioThe Patriot Post

The federal same-sex marriage decision out of California sets into motion a sequence of events that will result in a Supreme Court earthquake two years from now. The Supreme Court can either vindicate traditional marriage, or forever redefine the most basic unit of human civilization.

Sounds melodramatic, but unfortunately — it’s true.

Judging Marriage Proposition 8 Struck Down

colson2I have warned you for months that our religious freedoms are imperiled. Well, Armageddon may be close at hand if a new court decision holds up.

Yesterday, federal district court Judge Vaughn Walker, a Reagan appointee, overturned California’s Proposition 8, which defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

Religion and Morality in the Same-Sex Marriage Debate

Abstract : Some same-sex marriage activists might wish to exclude certain moral and religious viewpoints from the same-sex marriage debate. Evidence shows, however, that religion and moral argumentation are often harnessed in support of same-sex marriage. People of all faiths or no faith at all should be free to participate in the marriage debate and bring moral viewpoints to bear on the issues.

Married Fathers: America’s Greatest Weapon Against Child Poverty

The mainstream media, liberal politicians, activists, and academia bewail child poverty in the U.S. But in these ritual lamentations, one key fact remains hidden: The principal cause of child poverty in the U.S. is the absence of married fathers in the home.

According to the U.S Census, the poverty rate in 2008 for single parents with children was 35.6 percent. The rate for married couples with children was 6.4 percent. Being raised in a married family reduces a child’s probability of living in poverty by about 80 percent.

Five Essentials for a Thriving Marriage

Posted May 31, 2010

1. Be thankful for your spouse.

The demands of life, family, and work can cloud your attitude toward the one you chose to accompany you through life. Thanking God often for your spouse is a practical way to focus on what is good and admirable about him or her. It is helpful to occasionally reflect on the early days and recall what attracted you, what made you pledge your life and love to each other, and be thankful.

What's Wrong with Letting Same-Sex Couples Legally "Marry?"

From the Family Research Council

What's wrong with letting same-sex couples legally "marry?"

There are two key reasons why the legal rights, benefits, and responsibilities of civil marriage should not be extended to same-sex couples.

The first is that homosexual relationships are not marriage. That is, they simply do not fit the minimum necessary condition for a marriage to exist--namely, the union of a man and a woman.

The second is that homosexual relationships are harmful. Not only do they not provide the same benefits to society as heterosexual marriages, but their consequences are far more negative than positive.
