Artist, author, and lecturer Sylvia Hoehns Wright shares her life story and the stories of other women, inviting all to stand on a platform of Redemption. Why? In a world often characterized by chaos, lifestyles similar to the biblical character Delilah, Wright’s event identifies a pathway to spiritual renewal and growth.
Key Themes:
1. Eve’s Legacy: Although Eve’s choice brought pain and suffering, it also provided the opportunity for Redemption and a deeper spiritual connection. Identified by a Christian program GriefShare, Wright’s event is also a reflection of life renewal strategies: faith, confidence, courage, memories, love, and hope.
2. Relevance to Today’s Women: The struggles of contemporary women are not so different from those of their biblical predecessors. There is a collective hunger for stories that reflect their own struggles and triumphs.
3. Event Launch: Wright’s exhibit and accompanying booklet, “Redemption Defined by Biblical Women,” were launched at Monument Heights Baptist Church in Richmond, VA.
Why Host This Event?
Wright’s project, grounded in Christianity, also holds relevance for all Abrahamic religions—Christianity, Judaism, and Islam—as well as other cultural and religious traditions. Drawing from the Women of Faith Study Bible and the Christian-based GriefShare program, her art and booklet demonstrate that true Redemption is achieved through spiritual support and sowing seeds of life renewal:
· Faith: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1)
· Confidence: “Such confidence we have through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.” (2 Corinthians 3:4-5)
· Courage: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.” (Isaiah 41:10)
· Memories: “I thank my God every time I remember you.” (Philippians 1:3)
· Love: “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37-39)
· Hope: “As for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more.” (Psalm 71:14)
The exhibit celebrates biblical women whose strength and honor are exemplified in Proverbs 31:25: “Strength and honor are her clothing; she is confident about the future.”

A child of the “tell instead of read me a story” era, Wright encourages all to identify, record, and preserve the legacies of their heritage, both community and spiritual. In her memoir-style book, Eco-legacy: A Millennium Woman’s Heritage, Wright shares stories of her rural Virginia childhood and her present-day life at Hoehns Lakeview Farms in Henrico County, VA. She attributes her values and community commitment to her Quaker heritage, which views individuals as caretakers, not owners, of property.
