Why Clean Coal Deserves a Second Look

Energy costs are rising, grid failures loom, and AI and manufacturing demand more power than ever. In the face of national uncertainty, President Trump’s April 2025 executive orders offer a strategy centered on domestic energy and clean coal. These policies do more than revive a resource—they restore a biblical view of stewardship and dominion over God-given energy.

Resource Stewardship and the Genesis Mandate

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)

From the outset of Scripture, we are told who owns the earth: God. Psalm 24:1 reminds us, “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof.” Yet He gave it to us for stewardship. Genesis 1:28 tells us we are to subdue the earth and rule over it—not to exploit it, but to manage it faithfully.
Therefore, we must recognize coal—often mischaracterized—as part of this God-given inheritance. It has powered America for generations and still holds the potential to meet future energy demands when used wisely.

A National Strategy to Revive Clean Coal, an Energy Resource

President Trump’s 2025 order, *Reinvigorating America’s Beautiful Clean Coal Industry*, emphasizes that coal is a strategic asset. The executive order:

  • Declares coal a critical mineral under national policy
  • Terminates coal leasing moratoriums
  • Promotes new, efficient coal-fired plants
  • Supports domestic energy use in AI data centers
  • Accelerates energy exports to key allies

This is a turning point. As a result, coal is no longer to be buried in bureaucratic red tape—it’s being elevated as a key driver of energy independence.

Countering Environmental Extremism with Biblical Wisdom

Modern radical environmentalism treats nature as a deity to be worshiped. In contrast, the Bible presents creation as a gift to be stewarded. Deuteronomy 8:18 teaches that it is God “who gives you power to get wealth.” That includes resources like coal.

Consequently, policies that strangle domestic energy production hurt families. High electricity bills, shuttered coal towns, and dependency on foreign fuels result not from scarcity, but from ideology. This executive order reorients us to God’s model: use His gifts with wisdom and care.

Why Responsible Clean Coal Use Honors Biblical Stewardship

Technology has changed the energy landscape. For instance, innovation now includes:

  • Emission-capturing systems
  • Byproduct conversion into batteries and carbon fiber
  • Reliable base-load generation that doesn’t depend on sun or wind

In light of this, modern coal usage honors the balance between human need and environmental responsibility. It ensures people have power, jobs, and hope.

Meeting Growing Power Demands with Stable Resources

AI systems, crypto mining, and advanced factories demand continuous electricity. Clean coal is one of the only scalable and secure sources ready now. The executive order mandates:

  • AI power hubs connected to reliable infrastructure
  • Fast-track permitting for power plants
  • National grid protection against blackouts

With 80 million aging transformers and rising demand, stable power is non-negotiable. Thus, this approach helps meet these needs without compromise.

Faith, Family, and Fuel: A Biblical Perspective

God’s design calls us to care for creation—not to idolize it. Ecclesiastes 3:13 reminds us to enjoy the fruit of our labor. Energy provides work, warmth, and national strength. When policy aligns with biblical values, everyone benefits.

Furthermore, putting God first means honoring what He has given. Coal is one such provision. And it’s time the Church reclaimed the conversation about energy with truth, not fear.

Summary: A Return to Biblical Energy Stewardship

This energy initiative is more than political—it’s theological. It aligns with Genesis 1, defends the dignity of work, and strengthens the nation. By responsibly using coal, we steward God’s provision for the good of all.
