“Jesus said, ‘I am the Gate.’”
As we continue this powerful series on the Tabernacle of Moses with Alan Parr, we now pause at the very entrance—the Outer Gate. It may seem insignificant, but this 30-foot-wide opening is full of spiritual depth. This is the only entryway for an Old Testament worshiper—and the only way to God today.
The Only Way In
God’s instructions for the Outer Gate in Exodus 27:16 weren’t arbitrary. The gate had one entrance, located on the east side. It was made of blue, purple, and scarlet yarns and embroidered with fine linen—a visual symbol of royalty, sacrifice, and purity.
“You couldn’t come in from the north, south, or west—only through the gate God prescribed.”
Jesus declares in John 10:9, “I am the Gate. Those who come in through Me will be saved.” Alan Parr reminds us that this exclusive claim still stands today: no other religion, philosophy, or path leads to God. Only Jesus.
You Can’t Come Empty-Handed
Old Testament worshipers couldn’t enter the gate without a sacrifice. This is no empty ritual—it’s a picture of the cross.
Alan walks us through Leviticus 5, showing how even the poor were not excluded. If someone couldn’t afford a lamb, they could bring pigeons—or even a handful of flour.
“God meets us where we are—even if we’re spiritually broke.”
Whether it was a sin offering for guilt or a peace offering of thanksgiving (Leviticus 7), the point was clear: you come to God with something in your hands—either a cry for mercy or a gift of praise.
White Curtains and Dazzling Purity
Surrounding the Outer Court were white linen curtains, a striking picture of righteousness. As Alan shows, this reflects both our calling to purity and Christ’s absolute holiness.
“His clothes became dazzling white… whiter than any earthly bleach could ever make them.” (Mark 9:3)
Revelation 19:8 tells us the saints will wear fine linen, bright and pure, symbolizing “the righteous deeds of God’s holy people.” Even at the entrance, the Tabernacle pointed to Jesus and the robes of righteousness He alone provides.
Why the Outer Gate Still Matters
If you’re a believer, this video is a reminder to approach God daily with both repentance and thanksgiving—the two offerings highlighted in this episode. If you’re not yet in Christ, the gate still stands open.
“God will meet you right where you are.”
The gate is narrow, but it is open. And Jesus is waiting at the entrance.
Stay tuned for Part 3, where we’ll examine the Bronze Altar of Sacrifice a shadow of the cross. If you missed Part 1, catch up here:
