Joe Biden announced his intent to visit the southern border where he will see the wreckage his immigration policies have caused there. I’ll believe it when I see it. If a border visit does happen, it will be a carefully staged piece of theater designed to show how wonderful Joe Biden’s border policies have been for America.
But some Democrats have been mugged by reality, so they know better, and their numbers are increasing. The record spike in new arrivals just prompted the sanctuary state of Colorado to start sending illegal aliens to New York and other cities, because the aliens have become a burden Colorado cannot bear. California Governor Gavin Newsom said things are reaching the breaking point in his state. That’s rich coming from a man who gave illegal aliens free healthcare and signed numerous other benefits for them into law. What did he expect?
Colorado and Newsom join the increasingly long line of sanctuary proponents – all Democrats – who have been brought face to face with the consequences of open borders policies. New York Mayor Eric Adams and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, along with Martha’s Vineyard, once praised sanctuary policies but now see the problems caused when illegal aliens start showing up at their front door. Nothing like having to spend a billion dollars and declare a state of emergency to focus the mind and shut the mouth.
Record illegal immigration reflects the success of the three dozen or so policy changes the Biden administration has deliberately made to open the border. I’ve documented those changes in previous commentaries, but here are two more: The administration is emptying ICE detention facilities and sending detainees into Tennessee. DHS handled the swarm of illegal aliens overwhelming El Paso by moving thousands to other parts of the border, instead of deporting them. Remember, Joe Biden as president has the legal authority to stop all immigration – legal and illegal – today, for a good reason, a bad reason, or no reason at all. That’s section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). So all of the policy changes Biden has made to open the border were voluntary and deliberate. He could have made other choices.
Biden doesn’t want you to know the consequences of the choices he did make. He doesn’t want you to know what he’s been up to at the border.
Late last month, his administration barred border officials from revealing information about the magnitude of the recent surge of illegal border crossings to the media. Not only is the administration hiding the ball, it’s gaslighting you. It wants you to believe it’s all Congress’ fault for not passing comprehensive immigration reform. That’s a laugh and a half. That explanation does not explain why the administration deliberately chose to open the border in three dozen ways all on its own. Nobody put a gun to their head to do that. Then there’s always ‘it’s Trump fault’ which is just stupid because the Biden administration reversed every single one of Trump’s border restrictions, starting with the wall. ‘The border is secure’ – we keep hearing that out of the administration, but nobody in their right mind can possibly believe that at this point, not after seeing video of illegal aliens sleeping on the streets of El Paso.
But the biggest lie of all is how the administration deports anybody who doesn’t have a legal basis for being here. The truth is the administration lets anybody who claims asylum in, no matter how flimsy the claim is, and counts on overwhelming the immigration courts so they rubber stamp claims to get rid of them as fast as they can because the backlog – caused by Biden’s policies in the first place – is so huge.
I’ll pick up tomorrow with the money moves behind all this – who’s profiting from record illegal immigration and what influence do they have on policy?
