OPPOSE SB 868
Expands “Protected Classes” to include: Race, color, religion, national origin, sex, pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, disability, or status as a veteran.
Far-reaching special protections: Creates protections for “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” with an explicit causes of action and inserts them into every part of our law with no religious exemptions.
Sectors of the economy covered: Adds “Public Accommodation” and credit to currently covered public and private employment and housing.
Definition: “Place of Public Accommodation” – All places or businesses offering or holding out to the general public goods, services, privileges, facilities, advantages, or accommodations.
Creates harsh penalties: Harsh penalties for discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity – something as simple as calling someone by the wrong pronoun. Penalties start at $50,000 for a first offense and jump to $100,000 for a subsequent offense.
