The Virginia Watchmen Council having met on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at the Virginia Christian Alliance headquarters, is pleased to announce its endorsement of Virginia House of Delegates member Nicholas Freitas for the United States Senate, assuming Mr. Freitas satisfies the ballot requirement in the Virginia Republican Primary.
In vetting the four Republican candidates from the Commonwealth currently running in the primary to select the Republican Party nominee for a seat in the United States Senate, one hour was allotted for each candidate review. Candidates were allotted three (3) minutes to make an opening statement, before responding “agree” or “disagree” to a series of 37 statements related to government, public policy and political worldview, each falling under one of the following four broad categories:
The Individual (7)
The Family (7)
The Faith Community (4), and
The Government (19)
Candidates were interviewed in the following order:
1:00 to 2:00 PM Ivan Raiklin
2:00 to 3:00 PM E.W. Jackson
3:00 to 4:00 PM Corey Stewart
4:00 to 5:00 PM Nicholas Freitas
During each interview, candidate responses were videotaped. After all candidates had been interviewed, the Committee voted to determine which candidates should be approved for the final round of voting to select the Committee’s endorsement. All four candidates were approved.
By majority of Vetting Committee votes, Nicholas Freitas received the Committee’s endorsement.
The Virginia Watchmen Council (VWC) will be disseminating this endorsement to more than 10,000 clergy contacts in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
VWC encourages all candidates to conduct their campaigns with Christian Charity and kindly reminds them of Reagan’s 11th Commandment, “Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican.”
