From the John 10:10 Project

There are few natural wonders that captivate the human heart quite like a rainbow. Splashed across the sky in seven distinct bands of color—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet—this fleeting arch appears like a painted covenant across the heavens. But more than mere optics, the rainbow is a stunning testament to the divine order and artistry of our Creator. It’s a visual symphony, orchestrated not by chance or evolutionary happenstance, but by the sovereign will of God who formed the universe in six literal days as revealed in Genesis.

In a world saturated with naturalistic explanations and Darwinian fables, the rainbow stands as a radiant rebuttal. It’s not just a prism of science but a proclamation of mercy. According to creation science, this display of refracted light showcases God’s intricate design—each water droplet acting as a mini prism, revealing the Creator’s intelligence and compassion. The rainbow doesn’t point to randomness. It points to relationship.

“I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.” — Genesis 9:13

A Covenant Written in the Clouds

Genesis 9 records the first rainbow in Scripture, appearing after the global Flood as a divine promise that God would never again destroy the earth by water. The Hebrew word for rainbow—keshet—is the same used for a warrior’s bow. Yet here, God lays down His bow, pointing it away from Earth, signifying peace and reconciliation rather than wrath. This isn’t mythology or metaphor. This is creationism revealed and reaffirmed through natural wonder, drawing our gaze upward in awe.

As the video notes, rainbows form only under precise conditions: sunlight must enter the atmosphere at a low angle and interact with trillions of suspended water droplets still lingering after a storm. When that happens, the result is not chaos, but predictable order—white light separated into its spectrum, scientifically observable and yet spiritually profound. Sir Isaac Newton’s famous prism experiment confirmed this, but Genesis proclaimed it first.

From Wonder to Worship

The rainbow, then, is not merely a meteorological marvel. It is a theological signpost. It reminds us that God is holy, but also merciful. That He judges sin, but desires repentance. That He governs the universe with both power and grace. It calls us, not to marvel at “natural selection,” but to glorify the God who selects to forgive and restore.

In an age where evolution is promoted as settled science, this film invites us back to the source of true knowledge: God’s Word. As young earth creationism rightly emphasizes, if we deny the foundational truths of Genesis, we risk distorting the entire gospel message. The rainbow’s glory is rooted in history—a real flood, a real Noah, a real covenant. Let us never surrender that truth for the fading applause of scientific consensus.

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” — Psalm 19:1
