What do sailors and evolutionists have in common? They are both eager to, as we say, “buy a pig in a poke.” Sailors, when they finally get shore leave after a long time at sea are anxious to maybe hit a few bars, but also in their free time, buy some souvenirs. One of the souvenirs, in a few parts of the primitive world, was a shrunken head. Yes some cannibalistic tribes actually shrunk the heads of their victims down to 3 or 4 inches in diameter. The sailors would be approached by some shaggy character who offered to sell them a shrunken head. Of course it was in a box and could not be seen. The sailors were warned not to open the box until they were back on the ship because it was illegal to possess a shrunken head.
For the next part of the story, you landlubbers should know that in the Navy the latrine is called the head. When the sailor opened the box on the ship, he found a small model of an outhouse.
What does this have to do with evolutionists, you might ask? The Chinese have discovered that evolutionists will buy anything that purports to support evolution. The Nov. 1999 issue of National Geographic featured a dinosaur-bird missing link. You guessed it. It was later proven to be a fraud. Two fossils were glued together to appear as one.
But a later fossil from China will probably top this one. An Associated Press release article on Feb. 12th 2003 concerned a find in China of a four-winged dinosaur that glided from tree to tree. And they will keep coming.

To make amends, I wish to challenge the popular saying “spending money like a drunk sailor.” From years of experience I can attest to the fact that sailors, at least are spending their own money. If you want a more appropriate saying about wild and excessive spending, how about “spending money like a sober politician.”
Sorry evolutionists. You will never be able to buy a missing link. Save your money. Or donate it to a good Christian charity.
Bill Nowers uses humor in this Creation Bullet to expose a serious problem in evolutionary science: the eagerness to accept so-called “missing links” without careful scrutiny. Just as an unsuspecting sailor might purchase a boxed souvenir without examining it, evolutionists have repeatedly embraced fossil claims that later proved fraudulent.
The Piltdown Pattern Repeated
The history of evolution is littered with “missing links” that turned out to be hoaxes. From Piltdown Man to the infamous dinosaur-bird composite featured in National Geographic in 1999, fraudulent fossils have been promoted as proof of Darwinian evolution—only to collapse under investigation.
In the 1999 case, the fossil was literally two different specimens glued together. Yet it was presented to the world as a revolutionary transitional form. Why the rush to publish? Because the evolutionary narrative desperately needs intermediates between major groups of organisms.
The Missing Link That Never Arrives
Each new fossil discovery is heralded as the long-awaited bridge between species. And when one is debunked, another quickly takes its place. But after more than 150 years of searching, the fossil record still fails to provide clear, undeniable transitional forms required by macroevolution.
The problem isn’t a lack of imagination—it’s a lack of evidence.
You cannot buy a missing link if it never existed.
Faith in Fossils or Faith in Scripture?
Secular scientists accuse Christians of relying on faith. Yet evolution’s foundation often rests on trust in incomplete data, speculative reconstructions, and sometimes outright fraud. Proverbs reminds us that wisdom examines claims carefully rather than believing every word.
The biblical worldview does not depend on ever-changing fossil interpretations. It rests on the eyewitness testimony of the Creator: “In the beginning God created.”
