Vice President Vance’s Arctic Address Is a Wake-Up Call to Guard What God Has Given Us
By Jeff Bayard | Virginia Christian Alliance
When Vice President J.D. Vance addressed U.S. troops stationed in Greenland, it may have seemed like just another political photo op in a faraway frozen land. But to those paying attention, it was a clarion call to American Christians and patriots: we must not ignore Greenland. Not because we seek to conquer it, but because others already seek to control it.
At first glance, many may ask:
Why should we care about Greenland? Aren’t our own borders in crisis? Shouldn’t we fix America before worrying about places thousands of miles away?
These are valid concerns. But here’s the truth: Greenland is not just an icy island. It’s a frontline outpost for American security, freedom, and moral leadership. Here’s why.
Greenland Has Always Depended on U.S. Protection
Few people realize that the United States is the only country that has consistently stepped in to protect Greenland. During World War II, when Nazi Germany occupied Denmark (Greenland’s sovereign), it was the United States that moved quickly to defend the territory. Strategic airfields were built, including what became Thule Air Base (now Pituffik Space Base), one of the most vital American installations for early missile detection and Arctic defense. Even after the war, the U.S.–Danish 1951 defense agreement kept America in the lead, shielding Greenland from growing Soviet—and now Chinese—interest.
Not Imperialism, But Responsibility
Vice President Vance affirmed what many believe but few say: Greenland matters not because we want to “own” it, but because the world is watching. Russia and China have taken direct interest in the Arctic, both militarily and economically. Beijing has already tried to lure Greenland into debt traps.
These nations do not come offering liberty, dignity, or protection. They come offering control.
Unlike China or Russia, America offers something unique: freedom, constitutional values, and respect for self-determination.
Our record of standing up for Greenland in the past speaks louder than the empty promises of our adversaries. When Vance stated, “We respect the self-determination of Greenlanders,” he wasn’t offering a sales pitch. He reminded us of our moral and constitutional framework: governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed (Declaration of Independence).
A Biblical Perspective: Guarding the Gates
Scripture teaches, “The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it” (Proverbs 27:12). Greenland is one of the gates of our nation. It serves as an early-warning shield in case of missile attacks. If we abandon it, we risk exposing our children, homes, and future to danger we could have prevented.
Moreover, Christians know the call to stewardship. God gave Adam the task of cultivating and guarding the garden (Genesis 2:15). We are called to guard not only our homes but our nations. Ignoring Greenland is not stewardship. It is a retreat.
Constitutional Foundations: Peace Through Strength
Under the U.S. Constitution, defending the nation is not just a military function but a moral one. The preamble speaks of providing for the common defense and securing the blessings of liberty. This includes partnerships with territories like Greenland, which share our freedom interests.
America is not imposing itself on Greenland. We are offering protection, partnership, and peace. That is a far cry from the coercion or exploitation practiced by globalist regimes.
Closing Thoughts: Eyes Open, Heart Anchored
For Christians and conservatives, the message is clear: pay attention. Greenland is not just about ice, minerals, or military bases. It’s about whether freedom, guided by God-given principles, will continue to light the world—or whether darkness will creep in while we look the other way. Greenland is a key that can be turned for global peace and international stability.
The people of the world have long sought kings, as in the days of ancient Israel (1 Samuel 8), hoping that power and protection would flow from thrones and crowns. But Christians must ask a better question: shouldn’t the nations seek liberty—true liberty, grounded in God’s design, not man’s dominion? Only in liberty can people flourish as image-bearers of God, free to choose truth, worship, and live without tyranny.
Vice President Vance was right to bring this to the surface, and the Church must be right to understand it. Greenland matters, and what we do next may determine more than just headlines—it may shape history.
“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” (1 Corinthians 16:13-14)
“For Christians and conservatives, the message is clear: pay attention. Greenland is not just about ice, minerals, or military bases. It’s about whether freedom, guided by God-given principles, will continue to light the world—or whether darkness will creep in while we look the other way. Greenland is a key that can be turned for global peace and international stability.” 100% in agreement brother Jeff…this is reminiscent of the speech JFK never got the chance to deliver on that fateful day in Dallas where he quoted from Psalm 127:1 “…except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.”
