It has been sung by believers for centuries, proclaiming Jesus as King and Lord over all.

Context

Edward Perronet, an English clergyman and a contemporary of John and Charles Wesley, penned this hymn during a period of great evangelical awakening. The hymn was intended to inspire Christians to acknowledge and worship the mighty power and authority of Jesus Christ.
