In this episode of United Patriots Uprising, Gary Binford welcomes Jim Daly, president of Focus on the Family and host of its daily broadcast (heard by millions each week), to talk about fatherhood, faith, and a new must-see documentary co-produced with the Colson Center: Truth Rising. The conversation zeroes in on family as the bedrock of civilization, the cultural costs of abandoning truth, and why Christians must move from merely knowing the truth to loving and living it.

“Truth Rising”: Why This Film, Why Now

Daly explains that Truth Rising was born from a growing realization—shared even by some non-Christians—that “something’s wrong in the culture.” The film pairs seasoned cultural observer Os Guinness with Colson Center president John Stonestreet to trace the roots of Western civilization, name the losses, and call believers to courage. It includes a free four-part study designed to help individuals, small groups, and churches move from orthodoxy (speaking truth) to orthopraxy (doing the truth).

“When the spine of one is stiffened, it stiffens other spines.”

Family Under Fire—and Why It Matters

From its founding, Focus on the Family has championed the two-parent, mom-and-dad home as the ideal environment for children to thrive. Daly notes that even secular social science now admits this reality. Focus works every day to strengthen marriages, support parents, and save lives—including helping women choose life and then reading the thank-you letters from the children years later.

Author and advocate Katy Faust (Them Before Us), featured in the film, highlights a tragic cultural inversion: where parents once sacrificed for children, today children are asked to sacrifice for adult ideologies. The church must defend kids from harm and place their needs before adult desires.

A Civilizational Crossroads

Drawing on Guinness, Daly says we’re in a civilizational moment with three paths:

  1. Continue decline into ruin,

  2. Renew what made us strong, or

  3. Remake the nation into something else entirely.

The film urges renewal—recovering first principles (truth, dignity, the rule of law, marriage, and the sanctity of life). Every person bears God’s image and thus deserves respect; truth must be spoken with courage and kindness.

From Knowing Truth to Living Truth

Stonestreet’s charge lands hard: It’s not enough to know truth; we must love it, embrace it, and live it. That means biblical literacy—taking in the Word—and obedience—acting it out in public life. Daly points to the joyful resilience of the early church and modern examples of ordinary believers who stood their ground with conviction and grace.

How We Push Back (Practically)

  • Work the local: school boards, chambers of commerce, neighborhood service.

  • Use the study curriculum with your family, small group, or church.

  • Strengthen marriages and fatherhood; protect children.

  • Speak with grit and grace: “Be kind. Don’t be aggressive, but say, ‘You’re wrong—and here’s why.’”

Watch the Documentary-It’s Free!

Truth Rising is streaming free and includes a concise four-part study on truth, identity, and calling. Use it personally, with your family, or as a church small-group series.

Closing Call to Action

America can’t survive a severing from God and truth. Renewal begins with households that know the Word, live it out, and love their neighbors in tangible, sacrificial ways. Watch the film, gather a few friends, and start the study. Then take the next faithful step—in your home, church, and city.
