Creation Bullet Series: Destroying Darwinism, One Bullet at a Time
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” — Genesis 1:1 (KJV)
Original Creation Bullet by Bill Nowers
Common Sense – But Not for Everyone
One might think that most disagreements between intelligent people could be settled peacefully with a combination of facts and common sense. But this would assume that both sides of a controversy are really interested in finding the truth.
In our judicial system when lawyers wish to introduce an obvious simple fact, they will frequently ask the court to take “judicial notice” of that fact. An example might be to ask the court to take judicial notice of the fact that Washington D.C. is East of Fairfax, Virginia. If you are reading this, as a rational intelligent person, you would accept the statement as an obvious fact. But an example of how an evolutionists would look at this, if he had reason to challenge it, would be to say, “not necessarily, because if one would travel West from Fairfax, he would eventually come to Washington.” What’s another 24,000 miles or so? Irrational logic you think? Read on.
There is a multitude of things that exist in our world that could not possibly have occurred by chance, which would prove an intelligent creator. A common example frequently used is, if you saw the words “John loves Mary” scratched in the sand at the beach, you would immediately know the ocean waves did not form the words. Common sense tells you, it proves an intelligent input. Then take living creatures. Is there any chance a living cell could have created itself from dead matter? Not a chance. But evolutionists deny common sense and claim all life originated and progressed to our present state by natural occurrences. Dead matter came to life. But at the same time scientists defy common sense by both believing in the spontaneous generation of life, and in the biogenesis theory, which claims all life comes from existing life.( They are hypocrites as well as suffering from common sense deprivation)
While it is natural for those of different faiths to disagree, evolutionists have pushed disagreement to the point of denying common sense, being obvious hypocrites concerning the start of life, using vague definitions in an attempt to use evidence to prove something irrelevant, and claiming Darwinian evolution is a fact, when scientifically, it doesn’t go beyond a hypothesis. A scientific guess.
Genesis 1 says it all. “In the Beginning God created…” End of argument.
As the well known creation debater from the Institute for Creation Research, Dr. Duane Gish would say, after making a crucial point, “well that settles it, we may as well all go home.”
Bill Nowers begins this Creation Bullet with a simple but devastating observation: facts and common sense only settle a disagreement when both sides actually want the truth. That is the issue in the creation-evolution debate. The question is not merely whether evidence exists. The question is whether the evidence will be allowed to say what it plainly says.
In this case, Bill points to one of the most basic realities in all human experience: messages come from minds. Words scratched in sand do not come from waves. Instructions do not come from accidents. Information does not write itself.
Common Sense and the Courtroom
Bill’s courtroom illustration is helpful because it shows how ordinary reasoning works. Some facts are so plain that a court may take “judicial notice” of them. Washington, D.C., is east of Fairfax, Virginia. A rational person does not need an expert panel, a peer-reviewed paper, or a federal grant to accept that.
But Bill also exposes the way evolutionary thinking often tries to escape obvious conclusions. If someone insists that Washington is not really east of Fairfax because you could travel west around the whole world and eventually get there, he has not shown wisdom. He has shown a determination to avoid the plain meaning of the statement.
That is exactly what happens when evolutionists look at life, information, design, complexity, and living systems, then insist that all of it came from blind natural processes.
Common sense tells us that messages come from minds. Darwinism asks us to believe that the greatest message system in the living world wrote itself.
The Message in the Sand
Bill’s “John loves Mary” example gets to the heart of the issue. If you saw those words scratched in the sand, you would not credit the ocean. You would not credit the wind. You would immediately know that intelligence was involved.
Why? Because the arrangement carries meaning.
The sand itself did not matter most. The shape of the letters did. The order did. The message did. That is why the beach illustration is so powerful. It forces us to admit that matter and meaning are not the same thing.
Now look at life. Every living cell carries coded information. DNA is not just chemistry floating in a biological soup. It functions as instructions. The cell copies, reads, translates, and uses that information. The system is more complex than anything ever scratched in sand.
If a few words on a beach require intelligence, how much more the coded information inside every living thing?
Dead Matter Does Not Write Instructions
Bill asks the question plainly: “Is there any chance a living cell could have created itself from dead matter?” His answer is equally plain: “Not a chance.”
That is where Darwinian evolution runs into the wall. Evolutionists may speak confidently about change over time, natural selection, mutations, and adaptation. But before any of that can happen, life must already exist. A dead chemical mixture cannot mutate. It cannot reproduce. It cannot preserve favorable traits. It cannot compete for survival.
First, the evolutionist must explain how non-life became life. Then he must explain how chemistry produced coded information. Then he must explain how that information became useful inside a functioning cell. Then he must explain how the first living system reproduced before it died.
That is not a small gap. That is the foundation of the entire theory.
The Contradiction at the Beginning
Bill also points to the contradiction between spontaneous generation and biogenesis. Biogenesis says life comes from existing life. That is what we observe. Living things come from living things.
But evolution’s origin story requires life to come from non-life at least once. The evolutionist may rename it, soften it, or hide it behind technical language, but the basic claim remains: dead matter came to life.
Christians believe in miracles because we believe in the living God. Atheists also need a miracle at the beginning of life, but they cannot call it one. So they call it chemistry, chance, time, or a lucky accident.
Bill said it bluntly, but his point stands: the claim runs against everything we observe.
Genesis Gives the Answer
The Bible does not stumble over the origin of life. It does not begin with uncertainty, speculation, or evolutionary storytelling. It begins with God.
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
That one sentence answers what Darwinism cannot. It gives us the Creator, the cause, the authority, and the foundation. Life exists because God created it. Information exists because God spoke. Living creatures reproduce because God made them according to their kinds.
Bill’s closing line is fitting. After making the crucial point, Dr. Duane Gish would say, “well that settles it, we may as well all go home.”
Indeed. If God created, then the debate is not only about evidence. It is about whether man will bow before the God who gave him life.
Genesis 1 is not primitive science. It is divine testimony. God was there. Darwin was not.
No argument on a page can change a heart, but the God who created life from nothing can open blind eyes. May He give our generation the courage to recover common sense, return to Scripture, and worship the Creator who made all things.
