Prior to 2014, children who expressed the belief that they were the opposite sex or desired to be the opposite sex were diagnosed with Gender Identity Disorder (GID). However, in order to reduce the stigma associated with this condition, the American Psychiatric Association (APA) renamed the disorder Gender Dysphoria (GD). Gender Identity Disorder no longer appears in the Diagnostic Manual used by mental health professions in the U.S. and many countries.
In three short years, glbt activists have gone wild with the idea that transgenderism is no longer a disorder and are pushing it in the schools. They are threatening schools with the loss of funding by attempting to make up laws that are not on the books. The General Assembly of Virginia has not passed any laws providing special privileges for students suffering from (GID) or (GD).
Parents, be diligent, and monitor what schools are teaching your children. Many schools are hopping on the transgender bandwagon. Look out for the latest transgender indoctrinating tool used by schools, titled The Genderbread Person. It may already be in your child’s school. This colorful booklet teaches children that a person is born with three sexes.
Advice For Parents On Challenging Transgender Policies In Public Schools

Below are a few recommendations for parents regarding the increasing prevalence of transgender ideologies in school systems across the country.

- If school board administrators at your child’s school claim that transgender policies must be put in place in public schools so that they will not lose federal funding, they are not being truthful. The Trump administration withdrew the Obama administration’s May 2016 guidance instructing schools to allow transgender students to use the locker rooms and restrooms of their choice.
- Become a citizen advocate: Find out what precisely is being taught to your child regarding sexuality and what transgender restroom/locker room policies are in place. If you verify that radical transgender ideologies are being taught and/or enforced in your child’s school system, approach the school administration in hierarchical order with your concerns; this will ensure the best chance of success. Start with the classroom teacher; if your concerns are not satisfactorily addressed, move on to the school principal, then to the school superintendent, then to the elective school board.
