Does it seem to you that pro-glbtq is in your face every direction you turn? Well, be encouraged a little bit. Even though there was no press conference, no ticker tape parade, no national news coverage, the GLBTQ movement suffered a huge loss recently.
GLADD, a gay rights organization, has been commissioning The Harris Poll for an ongoing poll ever since 2014. The results of the Harris Poll for 2018 were released last month and despite the belief that present young people are the most tolerant of GLBTQ, the survey indicates millennials are backing away from sexual perversion.
There is a definite decline in the acceptance of GLBTQ when it comes to the age group of 18 to 34. In 2016, 63% said they were comfortable around GLBTQ. It dropped to 53% in 2017 and is presently at 45%.
The overall acceptance of GLBTQ by young women fell from 64% to 52% in 2018.
The discomfort with GLBTQ rose with millennials in all four survey questions. The results are:
- Learning a family memberis GLBTQ
2018 – 36% uncomfortable
2017 – 29% uncomfortable
2016 – 24% uncomfortable
- Learning doctoris GLBTQ
2018 – 34% uncomfortable
2017 – 27% uncomfortable
2016 – 24% uncomfortable
- Having a child placed in class with GLBTQteacher
2018 – 33% uncomfortable
2017 – 29% uncomfortable
2018 – 25% uncomfortable
- Learning a child had GLBTQhistory lesson in school
2018 – 39% uncomfortable
2017 – 30% uncomfortable
2016 – 27% uncomfortable
The CEO of The Harris Poll said in an interview with USA Today, “These numbers are very alarming and signal a looming social crisis in discrimination.”
I say this is not discrimination, but the result of millennials learning truth. It’s a WIN!
